iTrustCapital Review
Retirement is a big deal. But the right IRA can help you ease into it effortlessly. In this iTrustCapital Review, we’ll see if a crypto IRA like iTrust is right for you.
What is an IRA?
When it comes to retirement accounts, the Individual Retirement Account (or IRA) stands out as the popular choice. You can invest in stocks, bonds, and other financial instruments with these accounts to receive tax-deferred income or tax-free growth.
Traditional IRAs and Roth IRAs are the two popular types of IRAs. Within those two types of IRAs, you can use a company like iTrustCapital to invest in crypto. But before we get into the crypto side, let’s discuss the two IRA structures and their benefits.

Traditional IRA vs Roth IRA
A traditional IRA consists of pre-tax dollars. Contributions into this account are deducted from your taxable income.
The Roth IRA is a bit different, being funded with after-tax dollars. So, you don’t get a tax deduction for the money you contribute. That said, the money grows tax-free. And the best part is, it can be withdrawn tax-free once you reach the age of 59.5.

401k
There’s also the 401(k) in which a part of your salary directly goes to an investment account. Usually, the employer matches a part or all of this contribution and you can choose from a number of investment options for it.
With the 401(k), you can again go for either traditional or Roth.
What is a Crypto IRA?
A crypto IRA is a retirement account for you to store and invest crypto within an IRA for tax benefits (and rules) similar to other asset classes. Crypto IRA is the new kid on the block in that it’s a new IRS/IRA approved asset. There are some obvious changes here. For example, you use a crypto exchange and not the stock market to make trades. There is also the fact that your assets are kept in digital wallets.
What is iTrustCapital?
iTrustCapital is a self-directed IRA provider that boasts 175k+ accounts on its platform. The platform allows you to invest in gold, silver, and crypto with your retirement account.
If you’re someone who hasn’t invested in the past, the platform is simple and straightforward. So in terms of the user experience, you can hit the ground running with iTrustCapital.
And when it’s time to retire and take money out of the retirement account, the platform allows you to choose between cash and assets as a form of disbursement.
On the platform, you can opt for Roth, SEP, and Traditional IRAs. The minimum you need to invest, to begin with, is $1000.
How many cryptocurrencies does iTrustCapital support?
iTrustCapital is a bit on the weaker side in this department with less than 30 cryptocurrencies available for trading. But the good news is that most of the crypto you would probably want to trade are available on the platform.
What other assets does iTrustCapital support?
Apart from cryptocurrencies, iTrustCapital allows users to invest in gold and silver as well. Both of these precious metals are held physically at the Royal Canadian Mint. As for the prices of both, you can check them out here.

iTrustCapital Review: Fees
The fee structure here is pretty simple. There’s no monthly fee but a trading fee. There’s a flat 1% fee on crypto trades. If you’re instead trading in gold, you would need to pay $50 over spot per ounce. The fee is lower at $2.50 over spot per ounce if you’re trading in silver.
There’s also a one-time conversion fee of $75 for converting traditional IRA to SEP or Roth IRA.
Is iTrustCapital safe?
iTrustCapital is pretty safe owing to the fact that it has Coinbase as its custodian. So most of your crypto ends up in cold storage. There’s also the insurance policy of Coinbase that protects you against hacks, cybercrime, and theft. An extra layer of security has also been added with the help of Fireblocks.
Is iTrustCapital legit?
With Coinbase backing iTrustCapital as a custodian, iTrustCapital is pretty legit.
But it comes with its own set of issues that may be deal-breakers for some (in which case you could check out Alto IRA).
